Oshawa/Courtice Band Crown Lands named Band of The Year Second Year in A Row in 2020 Oshawa Music Awards Third Online Presentation
May 10, 2020 - Oshawa, ON. — Hundreds of music fans joined the virtual celebration as Crown Lands was named Oshawa Music Award’s Band of The Year for their second year in a row in a live award show segment hosted online on Saturday, May 9.
The show was kicked off with an interview between host Sandy Horne, and bandmate Gordon Deppe in celebration of 40 years since their popular 80’s band Spoons was brought together. The duo showcased the new music video from their upcoming album and single New Day New World. Rick Summers President and CEO of Summers & Co. Developments Inc. presented the award for Band of The Year on behalf of 70 King.
Second-time winners Crown Lands comprised of Oshawa/Courtice bandmates Cody Bowles and Kevin Comeau showcased their newest single “Spit It Out” prior to being awarded Band of The Year. After meeting six years ago Bowles and Comeau pursued success through a relentless touring schedule across Southern Ontario. Crown Lands have released two EPs Mantra (2016) and Rise Over Run (2017), and performed with major acts such as Jack White, Coheed and Cambria, Primus, and Rival Sons. 2020 sees the release of Crown Lands self-titled album released by Universal Music and produced by six-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb.
“It’s such an honour to receive this award for the second year in a row. The support from everyone has been unbelievable and we’re feeling the love [from our fans] despite this quarantine,” Bowles said in his acceptance speech.
Other nominees in the category included second-time nominee, Whitby’s Chastity, who showcased her latest single “Children”, and Uxbridge’s Robyn Ottolini who shared a song from her latest EP, I’m Not Always Hilarious, “F-150”. Both joined the live stream to speak with host Sandy Horne about their musical careers and connection to Durham Region.
